Your car is very important. It makes your travel so easy and accessible to work, to a grocery store, to doctor’s appointment, and wherever you want to go. If you have kids you probably use your car even more often as you drive them to all of their school events and activities.

As great as your car is, with all this running around, it can get dirty quickly, especially if you have kids and pets. You may not like to sit on a dirty car upholstery. Prepare

Firstly, select a sunny day to wash your seats. That way, the sun will dry the seats for you when you have done the cleaning. Then clean your car. If your car has booster seats, papers, or other objects lying around the seats, remove them and keep at a proper place so you can continue with the cleaning process. Before you start washing your seat, you will need to extract debris like hair, crumbs etc. A vacuum can do a great job for you here. Use a handheld vacuum or a hose and brush attachment on your regular vacuum. Make sure to cover all the cracks so nothing is left behind.

Get or Make your Cleaning Solution

You have multiple options for what you can use to clean the fabric. You can get a cleaning product specially made for fabrics or else you can make your own cleaning solution. Be careful while making your own solution cheaper, it may not be as strong as the specially designed cleaner, even though most car seats will not need hard chemicals anyways.

If you are planning to make your own fabric cleaner, you have several options. Basically, you need to make a soap and water solution. People have had success with dish soap, laundry detergent etc. whichever kind of soap you use, add with hot water. Use a tablespoon of soap per cup of water.

Put the solution into a spray bottle. Before you start cleaning, spray on the infected areas of the upholstery so you can see if it will discolor or damage your car seat. If it looks okay then move to the next spot or repeat the process.

Scrub and Spray it

Spray the solution on the seat you want to clean and then start cleaning. However, do not be to enthusiastic-if the seat gets soaked, it may get moldy. You do not want to wet the seat though. Just get the top layer of cloth wet.

Once you are done with spraying, take a scrubbing brush with soft bristles. Make sure you do not grab a stiff one or you can hurt the upholstery. Using short strokes, scrub the car seat, focusing on any areas that are particularly stained. Scrub the soap it will bubble up the dirt. Grab a wet microfiber rag to clean the grime and rinse the area, then use a clean towel to clean the extra water. Once done start the same process with another seat.

Leave it for Drying

Once you have finished scrubbing and wiping your seats, they will still be damp. This dampness is fine– after all, you picked a sunny day to do this chore, Remember? Just leave your windows down and let the sun do its job.
